MG No. 73453 – Khai Bang Rachan Hospital, Singburi. Medical Equipment.

Project

We provided 6 Infusion Pumps and 1 Ventilator to Khai Bang Rachan Hospital in Singburi Province, Thailand. Singburi province is about 170 kilometers north of Bangkok.

Need

Khai Bang Rachan Hospital is a 30-bed public hospital. In 2010, the hospital had about 3,000 in-ward patients, averaging over 8 in-ward patients per day. Many in-ward patients need liquid medicine transfusion into their bodies, but the hospital did not have sufficient “Infusion Pumps”.  Also, the hospital had 2 emergency (paramedic) vans but there were no ventilators for the patients transported in these vans. In 2010, the hospital had to pick up about 10 emergency patients per month, and the distance can be as far as 30 kilometres one-way. Thus, Khai Bang Rachan Hospital requested the Rotary Club of Singburi for support of this equipment.

With this Rotary-donated equipment, Khai Bang Rachan Hospital can provide better health-care services to the poor rural people in Singburi, and can help save many lives annually.

Comments

This Matching Grant project was done in a very collaborative environment among Rotarians.

Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Bangkok South and Singburi made physical visits to the Khai Bang Rachan Hospital to look into the hospital’s needs, and to discuss with the hospital management as to what we could to help.  Singburi Rotarians coordinated with the hospital to publicize this Rotary project to the people in surrounding communities.  Singburi and Bangkok South Rotarians obtained the quotations, ordered the equipment, and coordinated on the delivery and installation. They also followed up with the hospital staff/management to ensure proper use/maintenance for maximum life span on the donated equipment.

Due to the significant distance, most of the coordination with the international partner club was done by Rtn. Masami Yoshimoto, who, in turn, took charge of the publicity for the project, both within his own club and at the district level. Rtn. Masami also made regular inquiries on the progress of this project and he physically visited the Khai Bang Rachan Hospital when he was in Thailand
